About

About us

We are a small whānau pakihi on a journey to learn more about our Reo, our whakapapa and our Toi Māori.

Based in Whanganui, we whakapapa to Te Atihau-nui-a-Paparangi, Ngā Wairiki mē Ngāti Apa, Ngā Rauru and Ngati Rangi. Our poi are inspired by the many strong wahine who have shaped and continue to lead our whānau into the future. We thank them for their mātauranga, their patience and their love.

We hope you enjoy our collection!

Our Story

Our whānau have grown up with a small kete of knowledge however Toi Māori has allowed us to interact with our Reo & Whakapapa in a way that breaks down intergenerational barriers that have stop us before.

We are now proud to say that through learning about poi, its significance to our whakapapa and actively making poi- we have generated a stronger relationship to who we are and love for the arts that have rebuilt that hononga.

This pakihi represents our ongoing journey to honour our tupuna who have protected and gifted us these taonga and continue to pass that gift on to our mokopuna.

Our Tohu

This Tohu is shaped like a basket and has 3 specific tukutuku Poutama patterns. These poutama symbolise the 3 kete of knowledge Tane obtained from Ranginui.

This is symbolic of our constant learning journey when we engage in making our poi products; What we know, What we seek to learn and what is unknown…
